    BATES DRAFTED IN 15th ROUND
Senior Pirate left hander Chris Bates was selected in the 15th round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. The Rockland OTB Pirates family is "shaken" and "saddened" to hear of the tragic loss of two its players. Vincent Crotty and Chris Konkowski passed away on March 30, 2010. The organization’s General Manager, Nick Farese, has released the following message:

The Pirate family, its coaches, current and former players, their parents, and supporters, wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Crotty and Konkowski families. It’s always tough to collect your thoughts when grieving the loss of a loved one, however in this case it is extremely difficult. I can never remember a time where I was at such a loss for words. These young men were extremely special. Yes, they were gifted athletes, who worked hard to get better. But both had a unique character that was unparalleled. They made us better coaches, made us laugh and made their teammates better players and people. Yes, it could be said that they were “kids just beings kids”, but it’s more than that. It is almost too hard to put into words, but the way we saw them grow, develop and mature made us proud.

Our sincere and warmest sympathies are extended to their families. Those of us who knew Vincent and Chris, will have them in our minds and hearts forever.
